McLean has played many parts in the show. Since then, the show has taken to the stage many times throughout the country, released two films, and the story has been remastered and revamped. “The Forgotten Carols” began as a book that came with a cassette tape of original songs in 1991. John sings these carols to this nurse who hates Christmas and is kind of corralled into taking care of his craziness, and it turns out that each one of the carols turns out to be something she needs to get through her life, which has been really hard.” And each one of them, like the innkeeper who turned away Joseph and Mary, has a carol. “This man believes he knew people in the Christmas story personally that have been sort of forgotten. “So, this show is based on a story about a guy who thinks he’s John the Beloved,” McLean told the Transcript Bulletin prior to the performance. “The Forgotten Carols,” with story and original music by Heber Valley’s Michael McClean, is a 30-year-old musical tale about a grief-stricken nurse, a 2000-year-old man, and long forgotten members of the nativity. Among Tooele County’s parades and lighting ceremonies, “The Forgotten Carols” came to Tooele High School Monday night to help kickoff the community’s Christmas season.
